A couple tips no matter what you decide to wear:
Style & Wardrobe
- Choose outfits that reflect YOU – try on a mix: casual, dressy, and something trendy or fun. Think layers, textures, and variety.
- Avoid super loud patterns or logos – They can be distracting. Solid colors or subtle prints photograph beautifully.
- Accessorize smartly – Hats, scarves, jackets, jewelry—these can totally change the vibe of an outfit and give you more variety without a full wardrobe change.
Hair & Makeup
- Go a little bolder than usual – Camera can wash things out slightly, so defined eyes and lips help. But still stay true to your usual look!
- Matte > shiny – Avoid glittery makeup or heavy shine (especially with foundation or lip gloss).
- Hair trims/color – If you’re getting anything done, try to do it at least a week before so it looks fresh but natural.
Spray Tan
- A subtle tan can warm up your skin tone and make you feel more confident in photos—but only if it’s well done.
- Schedule it 2–3 days before your session. This gives the color time to settle and fade slightly for a more natural look—and avoids any orange or patchy areas.
- Ask for the lightest or most natural shade they offer. Overly dark spray tans can photograph oddly, especially if your undertones don’t match.
- Smooth skin = even tan. But avoid heavy lotions the day of the tan because they can create barrier spots.
- Those areas soak up more color and can look splotchy. A pro tanner should blend those carefully, but it’s something to double-check.
- Streaks and uneven patches are hard to fix in Photoshop!
Prep & Posing
- Trust your photographer – (if that’s you, I’m sure you’ve got it covered.) A good photographer will guide posing and catch all the best angles.
Extras That Help
- Nails done (or at least clean!) – Your hands might be in the frame.
- Sleep well the night before – Nothing beats a rested, glowing face.
- Bring a bestie or your mom – Someone who hypes you up, helps fix hair or makeup, and makes you laugh is gold
