It’s not every day that I get to photograph someone I’ve known their entire life, but Shylee is one of those special people. Her mom and I went to high school together, and I’ve had the privilege of watching Shylee grow up through Facebook. So, when her mom messaged me about the senior rep team, I was absolutely thrilled! There was no question — I had to add her to the team.

It’s been such a joy getting to know Shylee in person this year, not just through social media. She is smart, kind, loving, and so funny. But one thing that really stands out about her is her ability to light up a room — or in this case, the camera. The second I pick up my camera, her face just shines. She knows how to work every pose, and she's always up for anything I throw her way. Whether it's a creative idea, an unusual setting, or a fun prop, she nails it every time with a big smile on her face.

No matter what I ask of her, Shylee is always game — even if it means climbing up a telephone tower (yes, we really did that!). She’s fearless and ready to take on whatever challenge comes her way. And let me tell you, that kind of energy makes for some incredible photos.

But what I love the most about her sessions is the way she includes her boyfriend, Aaron. He’s at almost every session, and they make such a sweet couple. At the end of each session, we always make time for a few couple photos, and it’s always a blast. Whether they’re twirling, piggyback riding, or running through an open field, they’re laughing and having fun the entire time. There is never a dull moment when those two are together.

One of my favorite memories from her session this year was during a particularly windy day when it started to rain on us. But instead of calling it quits, we just went with it and made the most of the situation. The results were totally worth it — sometimes the unexpected weather makes for the most memorable moments.

Shylee’s last private session with me was extra special. She wanted to go to her hometown of Burleson, Texas, and hit up a nearby park called Bailey Park. I had never been to the park before, and I’ll admit, I was a little hesitant about shooting in a new location without scouting it first. But my schedule didn’t allow time for that, so I decided we’d just make it work. And boy, did it! The park ended up being the perfect backdrop for her session. There were these amazing telephone towers that I knew would make for some incredible poses, and the water and western-looking rail added the perfect touch to finish out her last private session with me. It was one of my favorite sessions we’ve done together.

Shylee, I am beyond proud of you. Watching you grow up and seeing the beautiful young woman you’ve become has been such an honor. You are the spitting image of your momma, and if that’s any indication, I know you’re destined for greatness. I can’t wait to see where life takes you next — the world is at your feet.

I love you, kiddo, and I wish you nothing but the best as you take on whatever comes your way. You’ve got this!
