Book Signings, Wishbones, and a Whole Lot of Heart | Isabel Bolt’s Special Day in Southlake, Texas
A few weeks ago, I received a message from Harley, who works with Randy White Real Estate in Southlake, Texas. She was looking for a photographer to capture a very special event: a book signing they were hosting for a local author. I had never photographed a book signing before—honestly, I’d never even been to one outside of the movies—but I immediately said yes. I knew it would be something special, and I was right.
I arrived a few minutes early to get my camera settings dialed in and to meet the author, Isabel Bolt. Isabel wrote The Secret to Happiness is Low Expectations, her very first book. This was her third official signing event, and what made this one extra special is that her son works at Randy White Real Estate—making it the perfect place to celebrate her latest milestone.
It was a chilly April Sunday, and there were a few nerves about how the turnout might be. But wow… it was everything they hoped for and more. Guests poured in, bringing with them smiles, hugs, laughter, and beautiful memories. It quickly became clear that Isabel has built an incredible community around her—a true testament to the warmth and heart she’s poured into her life, and now, into her book.
The event began with Isabel signing copies for attendees, followed by a heartfelt Q&A session. Her son, David, led the conversation with questions about her journey to becoming an author, what inspired her to write the book, and what her favorite parts were. Then the floor opened up to audience questions, and the love in the room was palpable.
As I sat back and listened to Isabel speak, I felt myself tearing up. Her message hit home in such a beautiful way, and I honestly cannot wait to dive into her book. Her motto? Live with a funny bone, a wishbone, and a backbone. It’s simple, yet powerful—just like her. From the wishbone-themed cookies, to the wishbone on her shirt, to the heartfelt stories about raising two boys and keeping a scrapbook full of life’s most hilarious moments—everything about the event was a reflection of who Isabel is.
We ended the afternoon with mingling, cocktails, and of course, lots of photo ops in front of the custom board. It was such an honor to capture these moments for Isabel and for the wonderful team at Randy White Real Estate. I left feeling inspired, grateful, and excited to read The Secret to Happiness is Low Expectations.
